As Google announced in mid-May the online distribution of its Android smartphone Nexus One will stop soon. Currently we sell the last delivery, shares the company with the Nexus-One-Blog.
Is this sold out, the phone will no longer be online available only through Google, but only through partners such as Vodafone in Europe. But customers will continue to support.
To ensure that developers always have access to phones with the latest version of Android, Google wants to sell the Nexus One of partners remains to registered developers. To purchase a Nexus One, programmers must sign in with their account on the Android Market site publishers.
"While the global spread has exceeded our expectations, the Android platform, the online shop has missed them," wrote Andy Rubin, head of Google’s Android-division, in May in a blog entry. The online store has been adopted only by enthusiasts. Most customers wanted a product first in their hands before they bought it, so Rubin continued. In future, the shop will only inform about available worldwide Android phones.
Even Google CEO Eric Schmidt said recently that there would be no successor to the Nexus One. They had brought the Nexus One on the market to drive the business with mobile hardware around Android. That program had risen so much that now there was no reason to sell its own smartphone.
